Job Purpose:
The Occupational Safety and Health Officer will assist in the provision of advice, training, consultation, monitoring, and governance, to support a wide cross-section of stakeholders by ensuring all relevant Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation, Government of Jamaica policies and procedures are implemented and effective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participates in the development and revision of specific occupational safety and health system documentation such as, policies, procedures, and manuals.
- Devises and implements systems that ensures all OSH policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
- Conducts a full programme of documented and critically analysed OSH inspections, audits, and checks.
- Maintains and implements occupational safety and health internal audit schedules including monitoring and following up recommendations from previous internal audits and report on audit outcomes to management.
- Participates in the alignment of the hospital’s corporate/operational plans and budget with the Ministry’s strategic objectives and priority programmes.
- Maintains mechanisms to effectively coordinate the alignment of plans, programmes and projects of the Bellevue Hospital and its departments and agencies in order to ensure a cohesive and complimentary execution of policy and programme initiatives.
- Prepares and submits performance and other reports relating to the achievement of targets for the Hospital and its agencies as required and ensures timely submission of all documents/information requested from the Branch.
- Develops Individual Work Plan based on strategic alignment with the hospital’s Operational Plans.
- Prepares and conducts presentations on role of Departments/Units for the Orientation/Onboarding programme;
- Contributes and maintains a harmonious working environment.
- Performs all other related duties and functions as may be required from time to time.
Required Qualification and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety Management, Human Resource Management, Public Sector Management/Public Policy, Business Administration, Management Studies, or related field of Social Science;
- Three (3) years’ experience in Occupational Health & Safety Management, HRM, Audit or equivalent environment.
