Director of Nursing Services (HPC/RN7)

Job Purpose:

The Director of Nursing Services is the Chief Advisor to Nurses and Nursing and represents the Nursing profession at national, regional, and international levels. This post is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of programmes and activities for attracting and retaining nursing personnel for the delivery of quality nursing care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participates as a member of the inter-disciplinary team at National Level in Health Planning and Programming.
• Promotes achievement of the goals and objectives for Health Services for the Country.
• Interprets policies and plans of the Bellevue Hospital to other levels of Nursing Personnel.
• Co-ordinates the activities of the Nursing Officers within the Bellevue Hospital to ensure proper planning and implementation of programmes to achieve quality nursing care of clients and socio-economic well-being of Nursing Personnel.
• Advises the Senior medical Officer on Nursing matters.
• Plans and ensures implementation of a staff development programme for senior level nurses.
• Supervises and provides technical. support to nurse-managers in institutional and non-institutional services.
• Recommends Nursing personnel for employment, promotion, transfer, disciplinary measures, and advanced Nursing education based on stated criteria.
• Conducts, initiates, directs and/or implements research activities in Health and promotes utilization of findings to improve Health care.
• Prepares a budget for Nursing annually.
• Advises on changes in legislation which may affect Nursing personnel.

Required Qualification and Experience:

• Masters in Nursing, Public Health or combination.
• Certificate/Diploma/B. Sc. Nursing from accredited Schools.
• Advanced Nursing Administration.
• General Management.
• Progressive experience in institutional and/or community nursing services or nursing education programmes with a minimum of eight (8) years in a management position.
• Active involvement in the development of the Nursing profession.
