Driver (LMO/ DR 1)

Job Purpose:

Under the general direction of the Transport Officer, the Driver is responsible for providing skilled work in the operation of vehicles in transporting staff, patients and merchandize to and from their respectful destinations

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure that the vehicles inspection form is completed accurately before driving the vehicle
• Checks tyres, oils, gas, water and report any unusual noises/occurrences in the vehicle 
• Perform minor upkeep/repairs to the vehicle 
• Ensure that a gate pass is issued by the supervisor before leaving the hospital premises 
• Present the gate pass to the security officer at post on exiting the premises 
• Inform the security officer at post of the mileage on vehicle post upon re-entering the premises 
• Maintain proper record in the log book assigned to each vehicle
• Transport staff and patient to and from their respective destination 
• Transportation of specimens to the different laboratories 
• Pick up pharmaceutical, merchandise and other materials from the respective suppliers 
• Parks vehicle in the dietary loading area to facilitate the packing of meals 
• Transport meals to the various wards on designated rotation system 
• Timely collection of empty meal container from each ward 
• Pick up clean laundry from the laundry department and distribute to each ward 
• Timely collection of unclean laundry from each ward
• Drives the Ambulance to the designated hospitals/health facility in cases of emergency
• Parks vehicle at the designated area at the end of each shift 
• Reports all accidents and incidents occurred while operating government owned motor vehicles 
• Promptly report to supervisor any delays due to breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions or other emergencies or in the event of irregularities relating to pick up or delivery
• Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor/Head of Department 

Required Qualification and Experience:

• Valid General Driver’s License 
• National Work Agency authorization to operate government owned motor vehicles
• Two (2) years’ experience in similar capacity
