Rehabilitative and Reintegrative Services
The mission statement of the Bellevue Hospital highlights that the facility is committed to providing medical, nursing and rehabilitative services to all persons in need of psychiatric care, with the aim of returning individuals to functioning levels in their communities in the shortest possible time.
Occupational Therapy (OT) and Rehabilitation aim to improve the quality of life of these affected individuals by helping them to reduce their limitations through purposeful activities, increase their self-care skills, maintain maximum function and ability (both physical and social) and also to prepare for employment.
The OT Centre is staffed by a unit supervisor, a woodwork instructor, a tailor, voluntary art instructors and, by extension, a farm manager stationed at the Kenneth Royes Rehabilitation Centre.
Some of the skills taught at the OT Centre and the Kenneth Royes Rehabilitation Centre include:
- Crocheting
- Mat making
- Embroidery
- Woodwork
- Tailoring
- Visual arts
- Performing arts
- Baking Farming
The OT Centre opens between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays.
